Miniature Naturalist Shoppe
If resources are short and dreams of studying nature are long, one option is to be a miniature naturalist. Working on a small, upcycled, and local level, a new world waits to be explored.

Space, time, money, physical abilities…all can be in short supply. Or you may be seeking a simpler, more sustainable, way of interacting with the world. Either way, a possible solution is to down-scale nature explorations to focus on small organisms, explore local microhabitats, and reuse/recycle available materials. The creativity of studying and making on a small scale can reveal the properties and patterns of a wider world.
1:24 Scale Model
To represent the idea of studying and making on a small scale, I have adapted a dollhouse kit purchased from Amazon. These kits can be an amazing value when sale-priced, including a range of scrap-like building materials and even small tools. The shop is something like you could find in J.K. Rowling’s Diagon Alley to outfit a miniature naturalist. One side of the shop has materials for studying nature; the other has materials for making art about nature. Objects include charms from broken charm bracelets, small conifer cones, tiny artwork, trinkets, and mini toys.
